Tara Nott Cunningham began her athletic career as a gymnast at the age of 4. While competing in gymnastics for 9 years she also found time to play other sports. During high school Tara lettered in multiple sports (basketball, soccer, volleyball) and received a full soccer scholarship to play Division 1 soccer at Colorado College, in Colorado Springs CO where she started for 4 years. After graduating with a degree in World Political Economy Tara put her athletic experience and international degree to work at the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG) helping to plan and organize the 1996 Olympic Games. While working for ACOG Tara was introduced to the sport of weightlifting and began training in the sport. In 1997 she was invited to the Olympic Training Center to be part of the first women’s resident training program.
